Riquewihr, France
Riquewihr, France. A picturesque little village situated in the Alsace region of France, was at the top of Logan's list of places to visit. Why? Because it was part of the inspiration for the setting of Beauty and the Beast. What avid reader wouldn't want to visit the quaint town that Belle often found herself roaming with a book? This was a quick stop on our tour of France, so we'll cover our highlights as a family in this post.
We arrived mid-afternoon and spent the day wandering the streets of Requewihr. It was not hard to imagine what this town might have looked like in the 16th century because not much has changed since then. The streets and architecture are very similar.
Logan made sure to carry her kindle with her so she could read in the spots she imagined Belle reading-- including the famous fountain where Belle carried her library book.
Flowers were in abundance everywhere.
Lincoln loved the feel of the cobblestone streets against his feet, so I often had to remind him to put his Birkenstocks back on.
Every corner presented a view into the vineyards that surrounded us while we were there.
Favorites:
Food- we tasted some amazing, fresh Jambon de Bayonne (similar to Italian Prosciutto) from a local wine maker/butcher who kindly invited us into his shop to sample some of his products. The kids loved his homemade candy, as well.
Favorite thing to do while there: take in the scenery and imagine ourselves in the movie Beauty and the Beast. The kids were even caught singing, "There goes the baker with his tray like always..."
Our kind hosts left us several treats, wine made in the area, coca-cola made at a local factory, and some gingerbread cake made from a traditional French recipe for the kids to sample.
Would we go back? Absolutely!
The Alsace region of France was completely enchanting.
Au Revoir, Riquewihr!
